‘Dark Knight’ shines bright at DEG awards, News
Digital Entertainment Group tagged Warner Home Video’s “The Dark Knight” best in show as part of the industry trade organization’s DVD awards, announced Thursday at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
“Dark Knight” was lauded for “unsurpassed clarity and sound on Blu-ray Disc” as well as topping all titles last year for combined DVD and Blu-ray sales, with 13.5 million units sold globally in its first week of release.
Amazon copped DEG’s annual retailer laurels, while Best Buy and Sixth Avenue Electronics were honored for “consumer education of new entertainment technologies through demonstration of products, promotions and key advertising.”
In memory of DEG founding chairman Emiel Petrone, DEG also handed out three awards honoring outstanding digital-entertainment products. Pioneer took awards for visual and sound innovation for its HD televisions and audio receivers, while Panasonic copped honors for a Blu-ray player.
