Vijay began his acting career doing many minor uncredited roles as a child artist, produced by his father S. A. Chandrasekhar. Post-Thirumalai, he began portraying a stereotypical and copied acting manner, much like Rajinikanth and M. G. Ramachandran. Vijay has more recently become a charismatic film star and has thus developed a massive fan-following for himself.
He made his debut as hero at the age of 18 in the film Naalaya Theerpu in 1992. His second movie, Senthoorapandi, released one year later. Later on, at the age of twenty, he had his first successful release, Rasigan. Many successful movies followed, among them Poove Unakkaga, Kadhalukku Mariyadhai and Thulladha Manamum Thullum. While he was filming Minsara Kanna in 1999, he married Sangeetha
